The focus of this thread seems to be preventing DNF's. And the theme has a lot to do with Instructors not having time to do ride alongs. I whole heartedly agree the people that are running the event are busy. And I thank each and every one of you! But, while a lot of us are not instructors we can help. I am by no means National quality or instructor quality, but I can navigate a course. Why not ask at the drivers meeting to have novice's pair with someone? I would give a ride to a novice every time. Also, I would ride along to help get through the course. Why not have every novice line up in a lane late in the run have them ride passenger to an experience person? They can see the course and get a feel for it. The idea is to get them back, this could help. Use the many resources you have show up. We are in this together...

All good ideas. But to simplify things, announce at the driver meeting that help is available for anyone who needs it. Just ask for it.

Jim, That is already done at every driver meeting. If we see a newcomer dnf'ing a lot, we send an instructor to their car to offer to ride along and guide them.
