talk to Ken F. he is interested in getting a Yaris, and already has nice plans for it. Autox, only not too hard core.

What many people dont realize is that they were/are widely raced in cup series globally, driven as rally cars and in Japan and Europe there are very fast (well relatively speaking) cars built on this platform. If you really look at the Yaris, Toyota did a great job of keeping weight low and the cars are very light. Perfect componenets of an AX car. I will admit they are just a little top heavy but not as much as visual cues might indicate.
My Echo which was built on same platform as first gen Yaris and it was amazingly quick in AX events. People used to laugh at it until they saw it go. What they didnt realize is that it had full on race suspension with Koni adjutable inserts, sport springs, suspension reinforcements, camber plates, huge 26 mm rear bar. The car given 85 WHP was suprizingly fast. I finished within couple seconds of TTOD at a couple PCA events on street tires in that car. I actually worked with Koni to bring first set of Yaris Koni's to US to be test fitted on an Echo back in 2001.
I'm thinking something along lines of the yaris below. The cars spring to life when you drop them and put some tire under the fenders.

i think the car has potential. although i absolutely HATE the stock front bumper/grill. the part that holds the toyota logo makes it look like a beluga whale. but change that, and it has something about it.

Sorry, but having a Boxster (albeit track prepped) and then spending time/money on improving a Yaris for autox borders on lunacy.
Even if you put alot of parts on it and it does respectively well for the bargain basement people mover it is, it will still be dismally slow compared to the Boxster.
You just like the underdog angle, don't you?

Ooh... that sounds like a challenge. I figure the Yaris could still be a fun commuter car, if you don't go too silly with mods.

This has to be a trolling attempt...no car enthusiast would describe a Yaris as "fun to drive".

Best thing about them is exactly the response this post gets. 95% people wont believe how capable these cars are at speeds under say 80 MPH. I enjoyed driving my modified Echo more than my stock Boxster on mountain roads around my house.
Funniest thing is I had a 2.7 Boxster when I bought my 2001 Echo and did modifications on it. Its sort of a tradition that is developing. I think many people underestimate the capability of the Yaris. It wont be a class winning car but they are a hell of a lot of fun. I have owned nearly 30 sports cars/sedans from Hillman IMPS to Porsche 914's to 240Z to Sentra SEr to Honda CRX Si to Mazda RX2's and I can tell you the Echo/Yaris is a fun car if you get the right suspension and wheel/tire combo under it.
Just a couple vids.
