What type of gas you put in your car?[ 33 votes ]
1. 76 10 / 30%
2. Chevron 10 / 30%
3. Costco 3 / 9%
4. Shell 2 / 6%
5. Mobil 0 / 0%
6. Valero 1 / 3%
7. Others (please specify in post) 7 / 21%

Just want to know what type of gas you guys put in your cars? Daily driver or your race car (besides the ones using race fuel 93/5+)? And why? Does it matter?

I pump at Costco or 76 mostly, which ever is more convenient. Costco is significantly cheaper and I live a minute away from one so it's convenient.

Sorry if there is a thread/poll of this already.

Depends...for daily driver, I use the local Chevron, mostly.

For the motorhome, I go to Safeway and use our club card discount. Last time I filled up, the discount was $1.00/gallon X 42 gallons...yeah, we spend too much at Safeway!

Sam's Club near me always has the lowest regional price. No problems after over a decade in all my cars. Valves stay clean mainly from use of synthetic oil.

Chevron or 76 only: for the cars that I care about.

Costco/Safeway: for the truck.

I refuse to fill up at Shell. Bad luck w/ several cars in the past.

Being in the industry - it's all the same. The Company additives are the difference and how water free the stations keep their tanks....

Then they're... not... all the same. Smug

I've had good results with 76. I always buy 76. I have one of their cards. I should put a 76 sticker on my car.

However, I have gotten into the habit of hitting an Arco in Bakersfield on my way to/from Las Vegas. I haven't found a 76 that is closer to the middle of that trip yet.

yes, your somewhat right, the additives do make them different, but most of the additives are not that much different themselves. So, if your car runs good (in your opinion) on 76 gas, it will run just as good on Chevron, Shell, Arco.....The only thing you have to watch out for are the little stations (Mom/Pop), you don't know how often they get fuel or how they maintain their tanks.

If they have well maintained underground tanks, then go for it. Eventually they get their gas from the best bidders of our local refineries (Conoco, Shell, Chevron, Valero, ...) Any additives as required by their marketing is added right before they are poured in the trucks

One thing I haven't noticed is who brings in their fuel. Unlike Chevron, Shell, Valero, Union 76 that have their own dedicated fuel trucks, something that is pure shiny aluminum is most likely independent contract who will deliver any liquid for a living. Since I've worked in a Texaco which we became BP / Beacon after, I've met many tanker guys. And I can't believe I drank milk from a truck that also carried gasoline. It's all good. As with anything, it's a brief wash and everything is diluted by the mass content Smile

BTW, the 76 off Montague and 680 had leaking tanks that I had water in my fuel once. My uncle is a state inspector that visits all the gas stations about a quarterly basis to check volume and fuel quality. He gasses up at Valero. We've been doing pretty much the same.
