Well, this subject has come up again, so now it's up to you to decide. Please vote for your preference and I'll make the changes that the majority choose.

The issue is whether to continue allowing pictures to be linked into your signature, stop allowing that, or make some other type of change.

The forum software has the following options:

Allow signatures, yes/no
Allow code in signatures, yes/no (this is how you link to pictures)
Allow smileys in signatures, yes/no
Number of pictures allowed, <number>
Character limit on signatures, <number>

The current values are:

Allow signatures, yes

That's something that I can't control. Nor can I control the content. Basically, if you can link to it on a web page, you can use it as your signature.

I say we just go with a bigger avatar and eliminate the pictures in the sigs. I kind of like be able to put a car with the person.

Done! I made the max avitar size 150X150 pixels (old was 80X80) and 10kb. I predict a mad rush to make bigger avitars. Laughing

as long as theres a limit to the pixel amount is fine...ive seen some wallpaper-sized avatars before Evil or Very Mad

I've been with some forums that limited signature image size. It was policed my moderators and the community, and it worked. IIRC the limit was 500px wide by 100px tall, and there was a file size limit as well.

IMO tall avatars can be distracting sometimes. Does the software limit max avatar size to a square aspect ratio? Perhaps something like 80x150 pixels would be ideal. Bit less scrolling that way.

BTW Gotzoom - nice avatar. Wink

Yeah, I'm not sure who that photographer was, but that's a cool pic! Wink

The forum software does allow you to limit the avitar size by pixel width and height as well as size in kb. Previously, I had the max size set to 80 pixels X 80 pixels. I recently changed that to 150X150 and the max filesize is 10kb. I think that's pretty reasonable and since most people run at least 1024X768 screen resolutions nowadays, that should be fine.

In regards to the signature, there is no way to allow the linking of external pictures and limit them in any way. Basically, I can either allow you to use the [ ] style or equivalent html < > style tags, or not. The choices really are text only signatures, text plus smileys or no restrictions.

The picture sigs really don't bug me, so I don't have a strong opinion about this. If enough people hate them and vote to eliminate them, I'll eliminate them. The idea has always been for this to be a community forum, so whatever the community feels is best, is what will happen. Smile Nothing malicious has been linked in, so my preference would be to allow them, but mine is only one vote.
