My first thought was.. HOLY HELL why would they put the older Integras and the 2001-2005 Celicas in STS? The 90-93 Integra (mk II) I can kinda see, it has a pretty good weight advantage over newer cars, but does anyone seriously think a 2005 Celica GTS is going to be competitive in STS vs 89 Si and Miatas??
My second thought was, huh guess this means my dreams of adding LSD (and larger tires) and moving to STX are shot..
My next thought was, if they want ST to be newer/heavier more powerful cars then they need to increase the tire size limit. 7.5"/225 is just not enough tire.

jayroddrumz wrote on Mon, 24 January 2011 16:34So the 90 - 93 Integra is getting moved to STS as well?
These cars are all PROPOSED to be moved to STS for 2012, nothing is set in stone yet. The entire proposal is out for member comment, click the above link to read all the details.

Yes, it's all just a proposal right now.
As far as I see, the EF Si and CRX and 1.6 Miatas are all pretty evenly matched, and it should come down to driver in most cases. Even the 1.8 Miatas with open diff are pretty close. The other Civics and Integras and Celicas are a few steps behind those (at best?) but could do OK in the same class, so long as nobody has delusions of beating a well prepped & driven 88-90 CRX/Si in a 05 Celica.. or 99 Civic .. unless they are a godly driver But even so they aren't THAT far behind, and you're talking about 15-20 year old cars anyway.. if you wanna go out and find one of them, more power to ya. My impression of the ST reorg is to make some of the newer cars more viable.. ones made in the last 10 years that weigh 300-700(!) lbs more..

The "new" st looks fun, though I'm not likely to join. I'm no expert, but the only cars that look obviously off-pace are the corolla, xA, and xB. My guess is that the Mini and Mazda2 will rise to the top.
Shouldn't the STU mustang and camarobird lines read "over 5.1L", since STX allows up to 5.1L? I realize this is splitting hairs, since I don't think there are any 'stangs or camaros between 5.0 and 5.1L.
Also, how do they decide what constitutes a "sports-car based" platform? Seems like exceptions were made for the RX-8, camarobird, and mustang. Not that I mind - my biggest complaint is that too many sports cars still don't fit into this class. I mean, it is the sports car club of america, not the sedan club of america...

I agree, ST new is not the direction I would choose, also. Is there really interest in dumping ST type money in the Yaris, Maz2, type cars?
All the new class does is cannabalize some HS Minis...just a reshuffle, not a "re org".
I'd like to see an attempt at a faster ST class, not slower.
