I have a 99 miata built for SM2 -- not that I've raced it in SM2 in 5-6 years. I started the project in Austin a relatively long time ago. I didn't expect to bring the car to CA since ... well: SM2 vs. CARB. Anyway it's here now. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it but I do need a competent mechanic to check out a few things. In Austin John Long, Dan Pedroza and Ed Gilfus were the people I'd talk to. I'd like to find their SF/Bay counterparts.

The work I want done isn't especially hard. Flush tranny, diff, check clutch condition, recalibrate (maybe replace) an aux wbo2 sensor, locate a few sounds. Generally look the car over. Maybe work on improving the start enrichment in the Hydra -- but that's getting pretty specialized.

I'm either keeping the car a while longer or selling it. Either way it needs to be checked out. Suggestions? I'm in SF but I care more about having a good mechanic than driving a ways.

I'd give Edge Motorworks a call. (press F5 a couple times and their banner will show up at the top of the forum) They masquerade as a BWM/Mini shop, but they give Miatas love too. Plus they're autocrossers and road racers and just generally nice folks. Thumb Up

Specifically, look up SFR member Jeremy Rine, who is one of the mechanics at PR Motorsports. Tell him the ST Crew sent you Smile

Yeah, PR Motorsports would be the one you want. for the basics, I have had good luck with Mike at Mr. Mazda in Campbell as well.

I very seriously recomend Ed Railton's shop, Primier Auto, out in San Ramon for all Miata mechanical work. He and his crew are the most knowledgeable Miata folks in the Bay Area, plus their pricing is super reasonable and always fair. Ed is on the Region Board of Directors and is a multiple time Region champ in Spec Miata, instituted the sealed spec miata class (his waiting room will embarrase you).
