I am planning to get new tires before the rebate ends. Has anyone compared them side by side to see which tires are wider? My Azenis size is 225/45 and I am planning to get 235/40 to have more clearance... anyone?

The Dunlop page doesn't give tread width, but it does
give section width, so apply the same ratio of
section width to tread width as for the Azenis

Check sccaforums.com on the dunlops z1 thread. The dunlops looks to be "wide".

I am just afraid of major rubbing issues if I get them... since I do daily my car as well. I rubbed when I had the Eagle F1's but 235/45. The Azenis I have now are 225/45... works fine... I just don't know if 235/40 is gonna be good enough.

1. ask/dig mazda3 forums to find if anyone has your rim width & offset and runs 235/40/17. whatever the tire, find out what clearance/room remains and make a guess. my 235 z1 tread width is ~8.9"

2. 235/40 is much shorter than 235/45/17, by .9" per http://miata.net/garage/tirecalc

so if your 45 rub was due to your tire being too tall, not wide, then 40 might be fine

I've decided on 235/40, if tirerack gets back to me tomorrow before the rebate deadline that is. If not, then I will probably just get the 225/45 or wait out the Falken to be done.

Thanks An!

I just threw on a set of 235/40-17 Star Specs onto 8" wheels. If you want to come by and measure them Sunday you're welcome to. I'm running first group and will be leaving after I work, probably third group unless I work setup, so catch me early! It's the Taurus, there aren't too many of them.

Paul T. Ford body, Yamaha power - describes my car pretty well, too! Smile Returned to racing the STi-STU but still that #35 you love
