New post from our new Leader!
http://www.sfrautox.com/?p=1682

Includes notes about class combinations and new Index values.

Here, I will start off Twisted Evil : What, my STU homies and I have to run against those low-lifes in tiny STR two seaters in this "Street Touring 1" group? And we have practically the same Index? What's up with that!

Hi Paul, if practically the same index, isn't that fostering competition?

Yup, if you believe that the closeness in the index values is real. I can't compare the 2018 National results for the two classes because of the weather interference this year; Rick Ruth, the overlord of Index, is said to use hundreds of events to generate the numbers.

An S2000 weighs in 500# lighter than my car, a Miata even lighter, and their tire size at 255 is what I actually run (though I'm allowed 265, I have to go to a larger and heavier wheel to get those). I can't expect to have more than one or two rain events to tilt the field in my AWD direction. So we'll see I guess!

I'd complain about being put in a class with Praneil too, but he was moonlighting in STU anyway so you've still got the same hill to climb Paul Wink

My original thinking/proposal was to index everything since we don't have 10+ attendees in any single class through the season. The un-indexed classes at least give us some flexibility RG wise and will still have competition. 13 classes (26 with ladies) total is far better than 42/84. Very Happy

I need to see how this actually plays out, but as of now I'm not a fan. That said, this year I'm moving from FS (where there were always a hand full of cars) to CAM-C and will have to see how many CAM cars show up for events.

I like the new format, I prefer larger classes and more competition which to me equals more fun.

What are you talking about, Praneil is a great motivator but he's faster in STR IMHO. This is my hill to climb...

on a 55.00 sec course I have to be this much faster to out Pax STU, STX, STR

XP .500

SSP 2.400

STU 4.500

STX 5.500

STR 4.900

So think about the hill I have to climb to get Andy McKee. Andy will be my AAS motivation. Praneil will be my SCCA, Lotus Club motivation.

Have Fun

Sorry, I mean playful complaining, I agree, the reason I keep coming back to SFR is because we have several national level contenders in several classes.

I would not be nearly as motivated to build a competitive car and work on my driving if guys like Praneil, Jimmy, and the Tsang brothers weren't playing in Street Touring. Fingers crossed I can start putting myself in contention this year. There's almost a minimum of 10 really great drivers showing up every event and we're better for it, sometimes our top PAX is nearly 20 deep with national trophy winners. Being a big fish in a small pond ain't my jam.

There are too many names to list that could show up every weekend so I won't, there's lots of people I respect in SFR (and our visiting neighbors) and I love it.

Thumb Up

Edit: as for the changes, seems AAS inspired and I see nothing wrong with that. Tony's right, we struggle to pull ten cars into a class consistently and attendance plays a big part if you're hunting club points so whatever PAX advantages disadvantages are minimized over a season.

I like the idea of tracking PAX points for top 20, but wouldn't be surprised if nobody else was into that.
Might need to nerf SSC PAX to make sure everyone can play though...

We have been using groups for our classes in Reno for a long time now. While we don't get 120+ cars like SFR does, we did get up to those numbers a few years ago. With our venue struggles as of late, our entries have fallen off. But in the end, it works and it gets drivers to meet new drivers as they are competing against a whole new group.
