A friend wants to start autocrossing. He went to one event, thought that he sucked and wants to speed up the learning curve. A dozen or so years ago I did an all-day class sponsored by SCCA that was really good - the best experience that I had in the sport. Is SCCA or anyone else doing those anymore?

... or take advantage of individual coaching from those with experience. Tell your friend to not give up and that we all sucked a bit our first few events.

Schools are ok, but you can learn a lot just by asking experienced drivers to jump in the car and give you some feedback. Lots of info about driving technique and car set-up on the internet, and there are some good and inexpensive books available.

<- still suck and I've been to many this season. However, slowly getting better. October is far away so just tell him to get that wheel time. It's crucial and like Mary said, you can learn a lot from being around boss drivers too.

^don't suck and will go faster with an alignment and tires! Smile

We used to do an annual school in the region, but it is an enormous amount of work and requires a large number of both volunteers and students to make it worthwhile. In 2005 (my first full year), we even did an advanced school at Atwater...John Stimson had to convince Vic Sias to let me participate...Laughing

^thanks, lol. Working on it

See that's an example right there. At the last event Mike gave me those tips to improve my times. He must be getting tired of being at the top of BS class

Norcal UFO (when it was still going) used to do one every year...that was a great class and a killer deal for the money. I learned a lot at that class.
