The link I sent was not for a drone but for a new 360 degree 16 camera setup where are the cameras are synchronized.
Put the setup on a 15 foot poll and you could watch yourself go around a complete AX course.

There is a video link.

Dusty : just looked at the link.

Pretty cool for a very close quarters course. Lack of zoom probably means it will be less than satisfactory when the car is a few football fields away Wink

That exact same product exists but viable for our use. The company that makes it is in Santa Clarita. A few were used in the new Steve Jobs movie that im in. They run around $7500 though.

REALLY cool Mark!@ Thumb Up

Unfortunately SCCA banned "drones" aka UAS aka RC planes/copters from all their events.

Also do not do this at Marina, or near any other active airport (UAS within 5 miles of an active airport must be cleared by the tower).

Yes, I know about SCCA and airports. Those are some of the things that made it 2 years and 6 quadcopter before I actually got autocross footage.

You can try to make a street car into an autocrosser or you can do a lot less work to make a race car into a great autocrosser.

I can understand where insurance companies would have an issue with people flying drones over moving vehicles, but if Mark were to set up shop what would have been behind the trailer and was able to spin the camera and view down all three fingers that were being used, it could be a great training aid or promotional video for the sport.

I will be giving it another shot this Sat. Should be able to get better footage based on more experience.

I saw this new follower drone called Lily and immediately thought about how nice it would be to have one of these follow you around the course. I knew, of course, that there is no way this would fly in Marina (so to speak), or any other active airport. Plus I figure the possibility of having one of these come down on a car would make this a no-go. But it would be great to try out.

Most "inexpensive" drones can only go about 25mph. Marina would be a good place to do video as it is pretty small and easy to follow a car from the center of the lot. The no fly within 5 mi of an active airport rule is a minor problem, and a stupid rule, IMHO.
