You can try to make a street car into an autocrosser or you can do a lot less work to make a race car into a great autocrosser.

We went to the Indianapolis Raceway museum a couple of years ago, the week after the 100th anniversary race. All of the past winners were on display except the first one that had blown up during the demonstration on Memorial day. They were removing cars to return to their owners as we toured. Pretty special I thought.
Anyway, I found the evolution of technology fascinating, transaxles and wings especially obvious, and the observation that every single car had center mount type wheels, never a lug nut mounting on any car. I imagined that cars during the transition from wires to solid centers would have lug mounts. They did evolve from splines to pins at this time though.
Those old lead hammer retainers like used on the 1950 car were still pretty common in the '60s on street English cars. They were hard to remove after a year or so, or apparently when very hot as in the video.

Sorry you and Peggy have cancelled the United Five Ten Owners (UFO) events at Marina. Is there some other organization in the Monterey area that will start a similar program. Thank you for putting together the program in the first place. --John Kelly

Hi John, this comment belongs in the "UFO Ceasing Operation" thread, found under Northern California Events, not here where we're talking about fast tire changing Smile
