Hi!

I have been active in AutoX for 3 years, Member of Madison Sports Car Club (MSCC) which is a member of Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs (MCSCC). I also have attended a SCCA event held by the Milwaukee SCCA chapter, and several events by other smaller clubs in the Wisconsin aria.

My wife and I started with a 1997 Miata that we are slowly turning into a track toy, doing all the work ourselves, and we co-drove that for our first 2 years. last year we added a 2004 Mini Cooper S and while I continued to drive the Miata, she drove the Mini. Last year in the Miata I was 2nd in points for my class. But as our clubs classing is only vaguely related to SCCA, it's really meaningless to mention what class that was.

but this sumer I will be spending time living and working around SanJose. I just found out that I will be send to Ca from Wisconsin just 2 days ago. I had all my clubs dates requested off, and some other local clubs and track time to.

I know the AutoX scene in Ca is a lot bigger than I am used to, and my home club is much less formal than SCCA events. I am hoping that there is at lest one casual group out there, but even going for a full on big CA SCCA Solo event would be interesting!

Unfortunately I will not be able to bring ether of my cars or even my helmet, but if loaners are available, I do plan on trying to make it to some events

Norcal autox events are listed here http://www.baautox.com/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=11110&am p;start=0&rid=1645

Most groups should have a few loaner helmets available.

I don't think I'll ever get the hang of SCCA classing, every SCCA classed event that I've been to has put my Miata in a different class, usually ending up with fully track prepped cars, and that was when our Miata was nearly stock! But good news is that since I would be racing rentals, classing should be easy.

Welcome to the Bay Area. Thumb Up

Sounds like someone didn't want to take the time to look up where your car really goes.

For stock rental cars, the classing is easy. Street class. The rule book link below will help you determine which sub class of "street" your car du jour fits into ahead of time.

Welcome to the area.

For the MINI you might want to consider the BMW club http://ggcbmwcca.org/driving-events/autocross/ They cover MINIs as well as its a BMW brand. Their classification system is flexible, you get points for the car and points for the mods and compete against cars with similar points. The BMW club makes it harder for you as you make mods, the SCCA system makes it harder for you if you don't make the mods you're allowed. You can run non BMW/MINIs, but they're not classified.

The SCCA does have the higher level of competition though, if you can make you car fit in a class. If you listed the mods, you'd probably get a lot of advice about what class it is, or could be in. There are lots of other clubs around here as well.

Have you found an organization for track days? We run with Hooked On Driving, they run at Laguna Seca, Sonoma and Thunderhill.
